Lichen ecologist Bruce McCune examines lichens on the tip of a snag in old-growth forest at the Wind River Canopy Crane in southern Washington. There are many lichen species that are limited to old-growth forests, and these forests usually have a much higher diversity of lichen species than forests that have been logged in the past.
