Paris Commune plaque

paris commune graphic

This plaque is on the Mur des Fédérés, in Père Lachaise cemetery, where perhaps as many as 1,500 people were shot during the suppression of the Paris Commune in 1871. The Commune was the largest urban uprising of the 19th century and is still remembered as a great uprising in defiance of a bankrupt empire, a repressive church and a corrupt bourgeoisie.
