Forest Canopy Platform Back to: Biological Field Research Index |
The photos below, taken in 1993, illustrate a research platform in the canopy of an old-growth Douglas-fir forest constructed by a team under the direction of Dr. Stephen Sillett, of Humboldt State University, California. The platform was located in the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest in the Oregon Cascades. It was about 180 feet above the forest floor, and was used as a base for pioneering studies of lichens, mosses, and ecological processes in the upper reaches of the forest. The images are model released. |
