Humans and Nature

Traditional agriculture in Provence is one of small family farms and individual attention to the fields, crops and animals, and this still exists. But it is being replaced by large industrial farms using mechanized equipment, that often grow crops for export instead of local consumption. Likewise, ancient stone building are being surrounded by contemporary structures, and commercial sprawl. The photos were taken in the region centered around Forcalquier, and near Manosque, mostly in 2007. They do not suggest aspects of Provence that are portrayed as "charming" in books, or the sort that tourists seek.
For photos of more traditional scenes, see the Provence section.
